Blankets are the most welcome accessory of the cold months, yet they often end up in a heap. Storing them well means they stay clean, look attractive, and can be reached in seconds when someone feels a chill.
A large woven basket
The classic solution is a wide basket beside the sofa. Roll the blankets rather than folding them so each is easy to pull out. Choose a basket with sturdy handles to move between rooms.
A blanket ladder
A leaning ladder in wood or metal displays two or three throws neatly against a wall. It works best in corners and alongside a reading chair.
Hidden storage
- A storage ottoman at the foot of a sofa or bed.
- A lidded trunk that doubles as a side table.
- A bench with a hinged seat in the entry or bedroom.
Style the display
Mix textures such as chunky knit, wool, and cotton in a limited palette. Fold one over the arm of the sofa for an inviting look. Keep only what you use, and rotate seasonally.
Care for them
Wash throws every few weeks according to their labels, and air wool blankets in fresh air. Clean, well-stored blankets turn any seat into a cosy spot.
