The entry is the first and last thing seen in a home, yet it is often an afterthought. An entry bench dressed for autumn offers a practical place to sit and a warm invitation to guests, all in a compact footprint.
Choose a bench with purpose
Look for a bench about 45 centimetres high, with a shelf or open space below. A slim depth of 30 to 40 centimetres suits narrow halls. Wood, upholstered, or woven versions all work, depending on your style.
Use baskets below
Slide woven baskets under the bench for shoes, scarves, and gloves. Label them if the household shares the space. Baskets conceal the everyday mess and add natural texture.
Add seasonal softness
- A small cushion or sheepskin on the seat.
- A wool coat or scarf on a hook above, as part of the display.
- A ceramic bowl for keys and a small lamp on a nearby shelf.
Anchor with a mirror
A mirror above the bench lets you check your appearance and bounces light around the space. Choose a frame in wood or brass to echo autumn tones.
Keep it uncluttered
Resist stacking items on the bench. Treat it as a seat first, and the entry will remain calm and welcoming through the busy season.
